Lecce coach Luca Gotti says he is pleased to come away with regrets following a tantalising 0-0 draw at home against Roma on Easter Monday, which could have gone either way at various stages of proceedings.

Lecce and Roma went in for full-time with the scores at 0-0, despite a whopping 37 attempts between the two sides. 27 of those shots came from Lecce, with Roma providing the other 10.

“We are pleased with the attitude, we managed the game with great courage, creating lots of opportunities, some of them were sensational,” Gotti said to DAZN after full-time, reported via TMW

“Having regrets after a 0-0 with Roma is something we will take great positivity from,” he added.

Lecce switched in formation against Roma, lining up in a 4-4-2 with two out-and-out strikers in Nikola Krstovic and Roberto Piccoli. They were supported by Pontus Almqvist and Lameck Banda on the wings, with Alexis Blin and Ylber Ramadani in midfield.

Asked whether Lecce could stick to the two-up-front system moving forwards, Gotti said: “If we can fit in two out-and-out strikers, plus Almqvist, against Roma, then there’s no reason why we can’t do that again against any other team.

“Most importantly, Kristovic and Piccoli tried to find each other. I’m looking forward to the game when it all clicks and we win 3-0. They aren’t missing many, though.”

Responding to questions on whether Lecce can step it up towards the end of the 2023-24 season, Gotti said: I hope so, but we need to show it in the last eight matches. I hope to be talking about facts rather than theories.”
