Spezia head coach Luca Gotti has been forced to miss his team’s upcoming Serie A clash with Napoli after undergoing a hip operation this week.

The 55-year-old Italian coach took over at the Ligurian outfit in the summer, penning a two-year contract with the club.

Whilst there have been some highlights from Gotti’s first seven months in charge of Spezia, like their wins over Empoli, Torino and Sampdoria, his side do sit dangerously close to the relegation zone, sitting just five points ahead of 18th place Hellas Verona.

As highlighted by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Gotti underwent a hip operation on Monday of this week at the Humanitas clinical institute in Milan, resolving an issue that had been bothering him for some time.

The 55-year-old is still working on his recovery and so will not be on the bench for Spezia’s Serie A clash with Napoli today.

Gotti has never beaten Napoli before in his coaching career, picking up just one draw from six previous meetings.
