Udinese coach Luca Gotti ‘can’t seem to understand’ their blackout during the 3-2 win away to Torino. ‘We seemed to be in complete control.’

The Friulani were 2-0 up in Turin when they suddenly conceded two goals in 60 seconds, but then two minutes after that Ilija Nestorovski got the winner.

“An error can happen, because we were trying to play it out from the back and at that moment we seemed to be in complete control,” the coach told Sky Sport Italia.

Torino were alert and did well to take advantage. The blackout happened after that, when we conceded another goal a minute later, that’s what I can’t seem to understand.

“The ability to get back on track and win the game was worth all the suffering of those few minutes.”

This was Udinese’s third consecutive Serie A victory, as last week’s game with Atalanta was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

“All Serie A teams have their qualities, but the only way to get that quality out is to work together as a team with determination and organisation,” continued Gotti.

“Where we have developed lately is in our confidence and belief. I hope the best is yet to come. The first win of this run against Genoa was the culmination of a period where we struggled to do what we wanted on the pitch and desperately needed a result.

“Since then, we have been building the foundations and gradually finding our feet.”

Gotti took over from Igor Tudor last season as a makeshift caretaker, but ended up keeping the job despite his protestations.

He has now had 38 Serie A rounds in charge and picked up 48 points, a more than creditable figure.

“Obviously, that’s gratifying, but 38 games really is nothing in the history of this club. Any coach is permanently in a precarious position, so the vision has to be short-term. I don’t need labels, I just need to do the work for the team.”
