Atalanta wing-back Robin Gosens was close to returning after two months out, but the German has reportedly suffered a setback during training and could miss the rest of 2021.

The Orobici were hoping to have Gosens back in action soon, as the 27-year-old was making progress and seemed to be close to completely recovering from a hamstring injury.

Gosens, capped 13 times by Germany, suffered the injury in the first leg against Young Boys in the Champions League two months ago.

He had recently returned to training with Gian Piero Gasperini’s men and seemed ready to step up the workload.

However, Sky Sport Italia reports that when the worst seemed to be over, Gosens suffered another problem in the same place.

He pulled his right hamstring when kicking a ball in training and the setback will force him to remain out for a while.

The report claims Atalanta fear that the player will not be able to return before next year.

Atalanta play against Venezia at the Gewiss Stadium today, aiming to strengthen their position in the top four with another win.
