New Inter signing Robin Gosens admits he considered a big-money offer from Newcastle United in the January transfer window: ‘I think it’s human…’

The Germany international joined the Nerazzurri on loan with an option to buy from Atalanta in the January transfer window.

Newcastle United were also interested in securing his services, but Gosens picked the Nerazzurri instead.

However, the 27-year-old has claimed that the offer from St. James’ Park did tempt him.

“I find it very human to think about it,” he told Kicker.

“It was a lucrative offer. I was offered more money to do the same job in a different location. Show me someone who would just say ‘no, thank you.’

“It was not just about me, I could probably have secured a few more generations of my family with this money.”

Gosens joined Atalanta from Heracles Almelo for just €1m in 2017. “The club will get a considerable sum for me. It’s a win-win situation,” he added.

Gosens is currently on the treatment table because of a thigh injury, but Inter coach Simone Inzaghi hopes to see him return to action before the end of the month.

The Germany international has 13 caps to his name and made his senior debut with his national team in September 2020.

  1. He would have got more money per season at Newcastle but there are 8 more games per season to be played in the English Championship, so wage per league game might be similar.
