Robin Gosens underlined his desire for regular playing time at Inter ahead of Germany’s upcoming World Cup campaign in Qatar.

The 27-year-old German wing back joined the Nerazzurri on a loan deal in the January transfer window from Atalanta, with the €25m move being made permanent this summer. His first six months weren’t particularly inspiring as he arrived nursing a hamstring injury, forcing him to stay on the sidelines until March.

Speaking to German outlet RP, Gosens first discussed his goals with the German national team ahead of the World Cup in Qatar.

“I had a conversation with coach Hansi Flick in which he reiterated to me that I need to put minutes in my legs to find my rhythm.

“At the same time, he explained to me that the door is more open for me if I play regularly. It’s all in my hands, my goal and my dream is to take part in the World Cup.”

With Ivan Perisic departing for Tottenham, Gosens is now hoping to take over the reins in the left wing back role.

“My goal is to become a starter for Inter in my role, that’s why my focus is entirely on the new season.

“I was happy to go on holiday after a difficult season, but I can’t wait to start training after playing little last season. I’m already shaky, I’ll start preparing soon to be in top form from day one.”

The 27-year-old Gosens made nine appearance for Inter following his move in January, scoring one goal and providing one assist in that time. He’ll be hoping to return to full fitness over the summer ahead of the 2022-23 Serie A season.
