Robin Gosens maintains Inter ‘have what it takes to beat Manchester City’ in the Champions League Final and identifies the greatest strength of Pep Guardiola’s team.
The Nerazzurri concluded their Serie A season today with a 1-0 win away to Torino, decided by the Marcelo Brozovic strike.
It allows them to prepare for next Saturday’s showdown at the Ataturk Stadium in Istanbul with 11 wins in their last 12 competitive matches.
“It has been a complicated season with a World Cup in the middle of it and we struggled for a period, but finished it on a high with the last two, three months being fantastic,” Gosens told Sky Sport Italia.
“I am proud to be a part of this squad, because it is made of real men who say things to your face. We won two Cups, can still take second place and at the end of the day achieved a lot this season.”
It isn’t over yet, because Inter will face Manchester City in the Champions League Final on June 10 and are the only things standing between Pep Guardiola and the Treble.
“It is a dream, as the Champions League Final is the biggest game that exists at club level. We are all proud, but also aware we earned this opportunity on the pitch. We’re going there to win.
“Anything can happen in football. We deserved our place in that Final, we know it’ll be a struggle, but we have what it takes to beat Manchester City.”
Simone Inzaghi gives his best in Cup competitions, so has he identified the main dangers of Guardiola’s side?
“We watched some of their games and their greatest strength is in their mobility. They give and go without the ball, there’s no player that just stays in their position, so that makes City particularly dangerous.
“But we have a week to study and prepare solutions to cause them problems.”
Emanuele Giaccherini was reporting on the FA Cup Final today for DAZN and argued the way to hurt Manchester City is to attack down the wings, where “players like Jack Grealish are not accustomed to defending inside their own penalty area.”
It was indeed a handling offence from Grealish today that allowed Manchester United to score with a Bruno Fernandes penalty.
