Robin Gosens claims Atalanta deserved to win against Sampdoria and warns Real Madrid ahead of their next Champions League meeting.

La Dea snatched a 2-0 away win at Sampdoria thanks to Ruslan Malinovskyi and Gosens’ goals.

“We made some mistakes in the opening 20 minutes. Luckily we didn’t concede a goal, then we raised the rhythm and played better. We dominated the second half and deserved to win,” the German defender told DAZN.

“We didn’t have the right rhythm and they did well with a good pressing. That’s why we made so many mistakes in the first part of the game.”

Gosens is now the best goalscoring defender in Europe’s top five leagues.

“I always have the freedom to push forward and finalise the action. I want to help the team, the first target remains to stop the opponents, but I can help in the attack.”

Atalanta will face Real Madrid in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 in two weeks.

“We have hope. The result [of the first leg ] was not good, but we can go to Madrid with faith. The red card ruined the game, but we want to prove we are a strong team.”
