Mario Gomez admits the tension and lack of experience got to Fiorentina, but they reached the Europa League semi-finals.

They dominated both games against Dynamo Kiev, but only became sure of qualification in stoppages for a 2-0 victory in Florence.

“It was very tough and at the end you could see we were not accustomed to playing these games,” goalscorer Gomez told Sport Mediaset.

“This is why I am very happy that we can give this gift to the fans and to the club. It’s important to be a winning side, as everyone here gives 100 per cent.

“We worked all together and it’s a shame we went out of the Coppa Italia, but now we are in the Europa League semi-final and we’ll see what happens tomorrow.”

Fiorentina go into the draw with Napoli, Dnipro and Sevilla for their first semi-final since 2007-08.

Gomez had numerous chances, but scored almost by accident with a ricochet off his knee.

“God wanted me to score that way, as two or three minutes earlier I had slipped when clear on goal. That’s football.”
