Captain Alejandro Gomez has claimed the options in attack at Atalanta are ‘crazy’ regarding 'the budget in a provincial side’ like the Orobici.

The Orobici captain spoke to the former Italy international Christian Vieri about his two partners in attack, Josip Ilicic and Duvan Zapata.

“I don’t enjoy anything during the week. Matchday is my day off,” Gomez told Vieri on Instagram Live. “Ilicic complains about everything, but he’s like that, sometimes he’s joking.

“He has a strange physique, often hurts his back and must pay attention to the work he does during the week.

“It’s impressive though, last year Zapata scored a lot, but this year he’s incredible. Duvan’s physique? I’ll just say that the shorts look like underpants on him.

“Sometimes I don’t even want to get close to him during training, it doesn’t take much to get hurt. When he is well, he’s a train. He kicks the ball forward and can’t be caught.”

Other than the influential forwards in Bergamo, the 32-year-old underlines that the rest of their teammates are working hard to help them to do their job.

“We have teammates who are working extremely hard for us, they run three times as much, like [Marten] de Roon and [Remo] Freuler.

“For a provincial side like Atalanta to have an attack like this, with three important names, and we must not forget [Luis] Muriel, who scored 14 goals and often came off the bench.

“It’s crazy if you think that we don’t have a big budget. However, every year, two or three first-team players are sold, but we continue to bring out something good.”

Finally, some words to the fans and the population of Bergamo, who are experiencing a difficult time due to the coronavirus emergency.

“I came from Catania and everyone was talking about a southern fanbase. But when I got here, I was surprised by how welcoming they were. You live well here.

“They’re a people who never give up, who love to work with humility. I think, after all this, they will be even stronger.

“Now, they suffer, but they know how to suffer. I don’t know why the problem has been so strong in this city, we hope that everything will improve as soon as possible.”
