Mario Gomez is raring to go after an injury-ravaged season and says top three is “not only a dream” for Fiorentina.
The German striker suffered a series of knee problems in his debut Serie A campaign, which also saw him miss out on the victorious World Cup run.
“I am happy with how pre-season training is going,” said Gomez in a Press conference.
“I’ve had a long time to recover my form, doing many sports. I feel good and the injury is behind me now. I’m doing everything to be in top condition for the start of the season.
“Last year I gave my all, even if I didn’t play very much. This term I want to play regularly and give back to Fiorentina.
“This club signed me and renewed the contracts of Borja Valero and Gonzalo Rodriguez because it wants to grow. Hopefully we won’t have so many injury problems this year.”
Fiorentina finished fourth in Serie A last season and reached the Coppa Italia Final, but Gomez wants to do even better.
“We can improve on fourth. Third place is not only a dream, but a possibility. In order to achieve it, we need all the players in great shape.”
The Viola rarely got to try out a trident with Giuseppe Rossi, Gomez and Juan Guillermo Cuadrado, but the Colombian could well leave in a €33m bidding war between Bayern Munich and Barcelona.
“Juan had a great World Cup and season overall. I can understand if a big club comes looking then he could think about it, but he’s important for us and I hope he stays, as he can make the difference.
“I’d love to see a Fiorentina with me, Rossi and Cuadrado together.”
Gomez missed out on the World Cup in Brazil, but cheered on his teammates and fellow countrymen.
“I am happy for them, though obviously it was a pity not to be there after such a long run. Who knows, maybe in future there could be room for me too.
“It was a surprise to see Philipp Lahm retire from international football, as he can play at the top level until he’s 40. He’s the best player I ever worked with in my entire career. Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery are great too, but Philipp is a genius.
“Germany won the World Cup because they were a team. Everyone gave their best regardless of who started. It was a united squad and nobody thought they were above the others. This is what counts in football.”
