Atalanta captain Papu Gomez assures they “will try to surprise” Manchester City and get their first Champions League point.

The Orobici are in the tournament for the first time in their history, but suffered a 4-0 defeat at Dinamo Zagreb and were unlucky to lose 2-1 to a counter-attack in the final seconds of their home match with Shakhtar Donetsk.

Their next test is the biggest of them all, visiting Manchester City on October 22.

“City are a team of a superior level to us and for several years now have been among the best sides in Europe, but we’ll nonetheless try to play our football, the same way we do in Serie A,” Gomez told Sky Sport Italia.

“We want to improve in the Champions League and will try to surprise Manchester City too.”

Atalanta have struggled so far in Europe, but picked up where they left off in Serie A, notching up five wins, a draw and one defeat.
