“We played very well, Copenhagen never had a shot and we created probably more than in other games where we scored four goals. It’s just how it went,” the captain told Sky Sport Italia.
A spot in the group stage will be decided on August 30 in Copenhagen, but Gomez remains very confident.
“I lost count of the number of times we went clear on goal. We saw this evening that Atalanta are a superior team to Copenhagen, even on a pitch that makes playing football almost impossible.”
Atalanta are again playing their Europa League home fixtures at the Mapei Stadium, loaned to them by Sassuolo, because the Stadio Azzurri d’Italia in Bergamo doesn’t meet UEFA parameters.
