“Lads, unfortunately, I had to raise the white flag and surrender,” wrote Gollini on Instagram.

“I tried to push in training over the last few days, but I felt something was wrong. And this scan confirmed it. There is a lesion that was not visible before because of the post-trauma liquid swelling the knee.

“I’ll be out for around two months, but right now there’s nothing else I can do. It’s disappointing for the injury, but above all because I can’t defend my Atalanta.

“I’m sad, but positive, staying by your side. I’ll be an extra fan cheering you on!”

Marco Sportiello is the second choice goalkeeper for Atalanta, but he only made one Champions League appearance against Valencia in the Round of 16.
