Atalanta goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini felt “fantastic” on his senior Italy debut, but concedes there’s a lot of competition for places.

The shot-stopper came off the bench for the final few minutes of their 3-0 victory in Bosnia and Herzegovina, replacing Gianluigi Donnarumma.

“It was really a fantastic feeling and I cannot deny it reminded me of my Serie A debut,” Gollini told Rai Sport in Zenica.

“It was really a fantastic feeling and I cannot deny it reminded me of my Serie A debut,” Gollini told Rai Sport in Zenica.

“I am so happy, even to be there only for a few minutes, for this debut.”

The gloves are wide open going into Euro 2020, as Napoli’s Alex Meret is also challenging for a place in the side.

“We have a strong group of goalkeepers and get along very well too. Salvatore Sirigu gives the younger goalkeepers a lot of advice and is a really strong presence in the squad.

“We work well together with Donnarumma and Meret too. We all get along, throughout the squad, and I think that’s the secret of our success. There is no jealousy.”
