Fans and journalists reacted to Inter’s tense 1-1 draw with Real Sociedad by highlighting the lessons learnt by Simone Inzaghi and the Spanish side’s misfortune.

The Nerazzurri rotated their squad a little for their Champions League opener, a decision that backfired as Sociedad hit the ground running in their clash, taking a 1-0 lead after just four minutes through Brais Mendez.

Imanol Alguacil’s side pushed and pushed for their second goal across the match, taking 14 shots with a combined xG of 1.38, but were unable to find the back of the net, something that came back to haunt the home side.

In the dying minutes of the game, a late surge by Inter allowed Lautaro Martinez to poke the ball past Alex Remiro, securing a vital Champions League point for Inzaghi’s side.

The Nerazzurri have started the Serie A season in fine form but disappointed on the European stage, giving Inzaghi and his players something to learn from ahead of their next group match against Benfica.

  1. On the bright side for Inter, in the past they would have been in Real Sociadad’s shoes, dropping points late in a game they dominated. Successful teams manage to snatch points from games they play poorly. Fortunately, Salzburg beat Benfica.
