Diego Godin says Inter are going "head to head with Juventus" for domestic supermacy, and their future in the Champions League depends on them.

The Uruguyan spoke to Sport Mediaset about his debut Serie A season, and believes the Nerazzurri are going in the right direction.

"Juve have won titles year after year with tremendous ease. This demonstrates their superiority over Serie A. We are competing, head to head, but let's not kid ourselves, we have a long way to go. At Inter we have to play every game like it's a final."

Boss Antonio Conte has spoken of the need for more players in the squad, insisting that he is pushing his players to the maximum, which Godin believe gives Juve the advantage.

"Juventus have a wider range of players that can play to win games. If they don't play well as a team, they always have a single player that can make the difference. At Inter we all must play as a team, to function together, to win. We hope to continue like this."

Inter face two tough challenges in the Champions League, as they sit third in the group, and face Slavia Prague away before hosting Barcelona at San Siro.

"In the Champions League it is very difficult. We have two hard games coming up. But it only depends on us. If we win, we get through. If we beat Slavia Prague, then the final game against Barcelona will practically be a final to make it through."

Godin also spoke of the transition from playing in a back four to a back three.

"All my life I played in a back four, from Atletico Madrid to Uruguay. In a back three there is more space for me, we have to be more aggressive. We push our opponents higher up the pitch.

"When I arrived at Inter I wanted to improve, so I adapt to the demands of the coach. The important thing is that we win, we are having a good season and doing well in Serie A."

Godin has made 10 appearances for Inter this season.
