Diego Godin is all set to sign for Cagliari after freeing himself from his Inter contract this evening.

Sky Sport Italia, Sportitalia and Calciomercato.com all report a severance package has finally been agreed between Godin and Inter.

Details have not been disclosed, but what is for certain is that the defender’s deal with the Nerazzurri still had two more years to run and was worth €5.5m a season.

The 34-year-old can now complete a free transfer to Cagliari, putting pen to paper until 2023 to become the fourth Uruguayan on their books.

Getting him off their wage bill, in turn, allows Inter to finalise a swoop for Barcelona midfielder Arturo Vidal.

Sky claims his transfer could be signed off as early as tomorrow, when a fresh round of talks are scheduled to take place.
