Former Parma, Chievo and Fiorentina left-back Massimo Gobbi has announced his retirement from professional football.

Gobbi played just 17 times for Parma last season and turns 39 in October.

“Thirty years ago, my first season as a footballer ended…” he wrote on Instagram.

“My career ended 30 years later. It was a wonderful journey! Thank you to my family. Thank you to those who were there then and are also there now.

“Thank you to those who have been on this trip with me, no matter how long we were together, for the mark they left on me.”

The veteran made 584 appearances for Parma, Fiorentina, Chievo, Cagliari, Treviso, AlbinoLeffe, Giugliano and Pro Sesto during a professional career that spanned three decades.

He also played once for Italy, in their first game after the 2006 World Cup.
