Kamil Glik has claimed Benevento are not only aiming to stay in Serie A and said he was ‘overwhelmed by the passion’ shown by patron Oreste Vigorito.

Benevento start the season with a trip to Sampdoria on Saturday and Glik prepares for his first competitive game with the Giallorossi.

Glik, who has previous experience at Palermo, Bari and Torino in Italy, is happy to be back in Serie A.

“The Italian League is a place where defenders make the difference and I’m here because I spoke with the President [Oreste] Vigorito and I was overwhelmed by his passion,” Glik told Il Mattino.

“I had the impression in the very few meetings I had that football really matters to him and it’s certainly not just business. This aspect made me say yes without hesitating.”

And the former Torino defender has returned to help the Streghe establish themselves as a Serie A club.

“I learned that the impossible doesn’t exist, so saying we only want to stay up would not be true,” he added. “We started in Serie B with Torino and ended up in the Europa League.

“This group won the championship with a record amount of points last term and you can’t do that unless you are already strong.”

He believes in the project and pointed at the desire of coach Filippo Inzaghi.

“Thre’s a project of growth and a coach like Inzaghi, who you immediately understand has clear ideas.

“Inzaghi is determined, he has competence. And he has the personality to be heard.”
