Borussia Monchengladbach director Max Eberl insists Inter have not made a formal offer for Marcus Thuram, but they would be ‘extremely reluctant’ to sell and do so with ‘a heavy heart.’

The 24-year-old son of former Parma and Juventus defender Lilian Thuram has emerged as a new major candidate for the Scudetto winners, who are not prepared to pay €30m plus bonuses for Atalanta centre-forward Duvan Zapata.

Instead, they are targeting more creative, quick and wider players who can vary the style of football under new coach Simone Inzaghi.

“I can’t exclude anything until the transfer window shuts, so it’s all speculation so far,” Eberl told reporters in Germany.

“The fact is we would be extremely reluctant to lose Marcus, so we’d do it with a heavy heart.”

Sky Sport Italia report his agent Mino Raiola is in negotiations with Inter to work out a deal for France international Thuram to play at San Siro this season.

“I have a good rapport with Mino Raiola. Marcus can score even more goals than he did last season,” continued the Gladbach chief.

“He has incredible potential, power and dynamism, so Thuram can do much more. Doing it at Gladbach is certainly a good move for him.”

However, Fussballtransfers write that Thuram has been seeking a new club for some time, as Borussia Monchengladbach are not in the Champions League.
