“If it were up to me I would give him [Gasperini] the Nazionale,” Ursino told Gazzetta dello Sport. “It needs a Coach who is good with young players.”
Currently Atalanta boss, Gasperini today takes his team south to face Crotone, who he successfully coached for three years before leaving to take over at Genoa.
“We had three fantastic years with Gasperini,” Ursino said looking back at the 60-year-old’s tenure between 2003 and 2006.
“There was the promotion to Serie B, unexpectedly staying up and the play-off bid where we fell short.
“We could have got into Serie A 10 years earlier than we did.
“Crotone served him very well, this place helps people improve. It allowed him to make a jump in quality.”
Despite battling relegation once more in their second season in Italy’s top flight, Ursino is convinced Crotone have the right man to keep them up.
“With Zenga we won’t go down to Serie B.”
