SPAL President Joe Tacopina announces that Giuseppe Rossi will train with the Serie B side from tomorrow: ‘We have the ambition to return to Serie A.’
Rossi will turn 35 in February and has been available as a free agent for almost one year as his contract with Salt Lake expired in January 2021.
Serie B side SPAL will give him a new chance starting from tomorrow when Rossi will be in Ferrara to train with the team.
“Giuseppe feels well and he is very motivated,” Tacopina told Tuttomercatoweb.
“We met many times in New York and I think he can be crucial for our ambitions to return to Serie A.
“Rossi is the best footballer ever born on American soil and this makes him even more special for Italian-American ownership like ours.
“He will also be important for SPAL’s plans to be present in the States from next year.”
Rossi scored 26 goals in 62 Serie A games with Fiorentina, Parma and Genoa.
A product of Parma academy, Rossi moved to Manchester United in 2014 and made his senior debut under Sir Alex Ferguson in 2004.
He also played for Newcastle United, Villareal, Levante and Celta Vigo.
Rossi made his senior Italy debut under Marcello Lippi in October 2008.
He has seven goals in 30 appearances with the Azzurri.
