Juventus sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli underlined the need for a top four finish and hinted at the club’s plans for the January transfer window.

The Bianconeri, who are not taking part in European competition this season following their agreement with UEFA, currently sit third in the Serie A table after eight matches, picking up 17 points from five wins and two draws.

Juventus did not spend heavily in the summer and it’s clear that a more sustainable project will be pursued by the club in the post Andrea Agnelli era.

Speaking at the Manlio Scopigno and Felice Pulici Awards ceremony at CONI via Calciomercato.com, Giuntoli was first asked if Juventus would be aiming to win the league title this season.

“We have the objective of returning to the Champions League, because it would allow the club to return to the position it deserves. Let’s go step by step.”

The Juventus sporting director then commented on the club’s plans for the upcoming January transfer window.

“At the moment we want to make the most of what we have, trying to do the best with the players we have.

“We have to evaluate things, if there are opportunities, we’ll assess whether it’s appropriate to intervene. We’re on a good path.”

Juventus currently sit four points behind league leaders Milan, but are expected to get an extra boost in the coming months as their rivals at the top all compete in Europe.
