Napoli director Cristiano Giuntoli confirms the Partenopei are in talks with Lorenzo Insigne’s agent over a contract extension.

Insigne sees his €5m-a-year deal expire in June 2022, but the two parties are nowhere near reaching an agreement.

While the Partenopei captain expects a pay rise, Napoli may offer him a lower salary to balance the books.

Several top European clubs, including Chelsea, Tottenham and Inter have been linked with securing the player’s services at the end of the season.

Serie A LIVE: Napoli vs. Torino

The Italy star starts in the Partenopei’s Serie A match against Torino today.

“We see him very well, he is our captain and he only thinks about the game, about football and Naples,” Giuntoli told DAZN before kick-off.

“His agent is talking to us, so we’ll see.”

Insigne, a product of the club’s academy, made his Napoli debut in 2010 under Walter Mazzarri.

He has scored 111 goals in 406 games across all competitions with the Partenopei.

The 30-year-old played a key role in Italy’s UEFA Euro 2020 win scoring two goals in six games during the tournament.

Napoli want to maintain their perfect start after seven wins from the opening seven games.

“An ambitious team should not look at short-term targets but face every game without thinking about the others,” added Giuntoli.

“We must only think about winning games, focus on one match at a time. That’s the only thing we want.”
