Juventus sporting director briefly commented on the situation surrounding Bianconeri midfielder Nicolo Fagioli, who has admitted to suffering with a gambling addiction and has been involved in the growing betting scandal surrounding Italian football.

Giuntoli was a guest speaker at the Festival dello Sport event in Trento on Sunday, organised by La Gazzetta dello Sport, where he discussed a number of topics, including his favourite memories in football and the most memorable Juventus teams of his lifetime.

However, there was no escaping questions on Fagioli given the headlines that have been published over the course of the last week.

Fagioli had gone to Juventus and then the relevant authorities to disclose his gambling addiction back in August, well before gossip columnist Fabrizio Corona started revealing names involved in the scandal.

It is now understood that he is cooperating with investigators to help gather evidence, which could help him in his expected plea bargain with the authorities.

When asked about Fagioli’s situation on Sunday, Giuntoli said: “We are sorry for what has happened, and we are very close to Fagioli.

“We notified the federal prosecutor’s office at the time, and the player and his lawyers immediately made themselves available to them.

“The goal should not be to punish him, as will happen, but instead, we need to re-educate the entire pyramid. We have our responsibilities as well,” Giuntoli concluded.
