Cagliari President Tommaso Giulini worries the Super League would represent ‘if not the end of football, then certainly the end of that football that made me fall in love.’

The outrage after the announcement of 12 breakaway clubs setting up a Super League continues to generate waves through the world of football.

“This is football, you win and more often than not you lose. It happens. But without the dream of every single fan, football is meaningless,” wrote Cagliari patron Giulini.

The outrage after the announcement of 12 breakaway clubs setting up a Super League continues to generate waves through the world of football.

“This is football, you win and more often than not you lose. It happens. But without the dream of every single fan, football is meaningless,” wrote Cagliari patron Giulini.

“All fans are united by one single immense desire to dream. This land, proud and dignified, taught me that you must never give up and can always dream. You might lose, but you must not stop dreaming as long as the ball continues to roll.

“Now some want to stop the ball from rolling and take away all the dreams that follow it. Even the dreams of those who manage a huge achievement, and not a financial one, of those who risk their own money because they have the same passion as a child in seeing that ball roll.

“I don’t know if this is the end of football, but it certainly would be the end of that football that made me fall in love and decide to do crazy things with my money.

“The sport that pushed me to challenge myself, to experience wonderful and less wonderful moments, to suffer at not being able to repay the love of our fans, who dream along with me, to try and try again.

“That’s right, the fans, because if they weren’t here, who would give a damn about football?”
