Cagliari President Tommaso Giulini confirmed he was ‘never in doubt’ about continuing with Leonardo Semplici at the helm.

The former SPAL coach replaced Eusebio Di Francesco in February, with Cagliari sitting 18th in the table.

Semplici started with back-to-back wins over Crotone and Bologna and went on to collect six wins and four draws in his first 15 games with the Casteddu.

After having secured safety and 16th in Serie A, the coach met with Giulini yesterday.

“The meeting went well,” Semplici told SportItalia, who asked if he would continue in Sardinia. “I think so, I think everything is fine.

“There was never any doubt. From tomorrow we’ll start planning.”

President Giulini confirmed the Rossoblu coach’s position at the Sardegna Arena and added he will be trying to reinforce the staff.

“Let’s start again from Semplici,” Giulini told SportItalia. “I was never in doubt.

“The plans? It’s early, we need to try to reinforce the staff.”

Nahitan Nandez has been linked with a move away from the club and Giulini was not able to reassure the fans that the Uruguayan will stay.

“It will depend on the market.”
