According to reports in France, Olivier Giroud does not have a serious ankle injury, but he will leave the France camp to avoid any further risks ahead of huge matches for Milan.
The striker had been in the starting XI for last night’s EURO 2024 qualifier against the Republic of Ireland, only to limp off after 25 minutes.
He had already received treatment earlier in the game for a knock to the left ankle and was seen in pain on the bench with ice strapped to his foot.
Now L’Equipe report that tests showed no serious damage, but Giroud is nonetheless going to be released early from international duty by coach Didier Deschamps.
He will therefore miss the friendly against Germany.
It is a mutual decision, as the 36-year-old wants to ensure he does not run any risks ahead of the massive fixtures coming up at club level.
Milan will go head-to-head with Serie A rivals Inter straight after the break for international duty, then host Newcastle United in the Champions League opener.
