Olivier Giroud has less than a year left on his contract with Milan but has no doubts about his future, confirming his desire to stay.
The 37-year-old Frenchman has continued to prove himself a key part of Stefano Pioli’s squad in the Lombardy capital, being their most reliable centre forward. Since Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s retirement, he’s also taken on a key leadership role, acting as a reference point for his younger teammates.
Giroud’s contract with Milan expires at the end of this season and the club are preparing to start negotiating a new deal with his agents, wanting to retain the veteran striker. In the meantime, the Rossoneri are also searching for a younger number nine, like Lille’s Jonathan David.
Speaking to Le Journal du Dimanche, Giroud was asked about his contract situation at Milan and plans for the future.
“My contract expires in June. I haven’t spoken about it with the club yet, but I would like to stay. I’m convinced I can still be useful to this team.”
The 37-year-old French striker currently earns around €3.5m net per season and has already been made aware of interest from Saudi Arabia and the MLS.
