Olivier Giroud’s agents met with Milan again today to whittle down the details, but they must ensure Chelsea let him go for free or there will be no deal.

The Rossoneri had been in negotiations for weeks with the idea he would be a free agent, but Chelsea announced they had activated the unilateral option to extend his contract to June 2022.

That was done in April, but only confirmed now, suggesting his agents were well aware of the situation and outlined it to Milan too.

Reports in Italy suggest his agents assured Chelsea will release him for free if an offer comes in from abroad, and would only request a cash sum for another Premier League club, for example West Ham United.

According to Sky Sport Italia, his agents met with Milan again today and whittled down the details of the personal terms for a two-year contract.

Milan remain adamant they will only take Giroud as a free agent and it’s up to his representatives to resolve the situation.

The Telegraph suggested that a €3-3.5m offer was prepared, but Italian sources confirm there will be no transfer fee for the 34-year-old.
