Giovinco, who is defending last season's award as Most Valuable Player, returned to his winning ways as his team won by 2-0.

The Atomic Ant notched a goal on penalty and one assist, as well as numerous outstanding plays.

"We couldn't have started off better," said the player after the game. "A victory we didn't even particularly deserve, one goal and one assist. I'm going home happy."

Giovinco is quite open about his ambitions to feature in Antonio Conte's Euro 2016 squad, and has the next three months to prove he deserves it.
