Maurizio Zamparini confirms Alberto Gilardino has agreed to join Palermo, with the move down to ‘final details’.

The former Milan striker spent the second half of last season on loan at Fiorentina, but has returned to Guangzhou Evergrande in the close season.

“Gilardino has agreed to come,” Zamparini confirmed, speaking to Radio Sportiva.

“He has accepted our terms. We’re looking to define the final details with Guangzhou. Only then will he start training with us.”

The Rosanero patron also revealed the club tried to sign Gregoire Defrel, before the Frenchman moved to Sassuolo.

“In the past few months I’ve chased a lot of players in Spain. At Las Palmas, Sergio Araujo, we offered up to €12m, which is a very big offer.

“I had [also] already found an agreement with Cesena for Defrel, but the player preferred Sassuolo, I don’t know why.”
