Alberto Gilardino was satisfied with Genoa’s hard-fought goalless draw with Juventus, admitting the opponents had ‘great quality and great physical strength’.

The Ligurian outfit were resilient in their Sunday afternoon trip to the Allianz Stadium, defending with might as they held off 17 shots to secure a point in a tense goalless draw in Turin, a result that infuriated the Bianconeri faithful in the stands.

Massimiliano Allegri was furious following Juventus’ draw with Genoa, losing his temper when speaking to the media after the full-time whistle. His side have only won one of their last eight Serie A matches, a run that’s dampened spirits in the Piedmont capital.

Speaking in a press conference via TMW, Gilardino was first asked about his possible contract renewal with Genoa.

“You have to ask the club this question. I’m tired of answering this question. I experienced an incredible moment with the championship victory and I’m experiencing other great feelings.

“Without the boys I would be nobody. There is a good relationship between me, the staff and the team. Coming here after two defeats and playing a match like this means there’s a lot of good stuff.”

The 2006 World Cup winner was asked if he’d be meeting with the club’s management soon.

“The important thing is that we must be focused and achieve as many points as possible. We want to mathematically secure our safety, and we want to amaze. Then there will be a way and time to talk to the directors about the future.”

Finally, Gilardino spoke about Genoa’s performance in the draw with Juventus.

“We must acknowledge a Juventus side that have great quality and great physical strength. In the first half we limited some chances.

“I’m thinking about my team and in the first half we put Juventus in difficulty. In the second half it was predictable that we might suffer.”
