Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma has claimed Zlatan Ibrahimovic ‘gave us an extraordinary mentality’, thanked coach Stefano Pioli and highlighted his target of ‘winning many trophies’ at San Siro.
The shot stopper spoke to Sky Sport Italia in an in-depth interview scheduled for Tuesday, but the excerpts have revealed that the 21-year-old is ‘happy’ at ‘great’ Milan.
“I thank the coach so much for the nice words he always spends on me,” Donnarumma said. “I will always give my best for him because he’s a great person and a great coach.
“I’m happy with what we are doing in this period. We are great and I hope to achieve the goals we have set together with the coach.”
The young Italy international has pointed out the importance of Zlatan’s arrival in January.
“He’s a beast, a phenomenon. He gives us a lot and makes himself heard. Ibra is the extra strength that we lacked, even in training.
“He lives everything to the fullest and has already created a winning mentality. He is truly extraordinary because he never wants to lose, even in training. He gives us an incredible mentality.”
Milan have returned from the lockdown in style and Donnarumma has explained that the Rossoneri were eager to turn their season around.
“There was this desire to get back together and take back what we had lost. We left many points on the road, but we had the determination to take them back. Our value is not that of before, but that of today.”
Donnarumma has kept 12 clean sheets in 32 games for the Diavolo this term and is aiming to pick up as many titles as possible with Milan.
“I want to become the best goalkeeper and win as many titles as possible with Milan,” he added. “But the World Cup too, I think that’s everyone’s dream. That’s the top also for me.”
