Udinese goalkeeper Samir Handanovic was being watched by Manchester United and Bayern Munich in the summer, his agent has claimed.

Handanovic remained with the Italian club for 2011-12, but only after United signed Atletico Madrid’s David De Gea and Manuel Neuer joined Bayern from Schalke.

“Handanovic was on the wish-lists of two great clubs,” Federico Pastorello told Gr Parlamento on Monday.

“Bayern Munich and Manchester United were keen, but they then decided to make different choices.

“Although these two doors have now closed, I’m sure that Samir will have some other opportunities in the future.”

The Slovenia international is one of Serie A’s most highly-rated ‘keepers and he continues to be linked with a transfer.

“Samir has clear ideas,” the representative continued. “If he does leave Udinese then it will only be for a top club.

“If those types of sides don’t come forward then he will stay at Udinese.”

The 27-year-old initially joined the Udine outfit in the summer of 2004, but he spent the next three seasons on loan at Treviso, Lazio and Rimini.

“I think a goalkeeper of his quality is worth around €15m,” Pastorello added.
