The Blucerchiati had gone behind to a Sergio Floccari opener, but completed the comeback with Gregoire Defrel and Dawid Kownacki to set up a Round of 16 clash with Milan.

“The team put in a good performance and had many shots on target,” the Samp Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“The team put in a good performance and had many shots on target,” the Samp Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“I am happy to have seen good performances from those who hadn’t played as much, because that means we’ve got a squad that is working hard. I want to praise all of my players.

“Some needed to rediscover their enthusiasm, like Kownacki. Riccardo Saponara is recovering from his fitness problems, but also has a lot of quality.

“I decided to play with two midfielders and think Ronaldo Vieira can be a playmaker, but he needs to improve above all in the way he reads the moves, both when building forward play and intercepting moves. He’s only 18, so we’ll work on it.”
