The Blucerchiati have gone off the boil since giving up on a European place and were beaten by a side in the relegation zone.

“Unfortunately, this is just not good enough,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia after a 2-1 home loss.

“We have to fight the temptation to be ordinary. We have to raise the bar every time and not rest on these laurels.

“It was a pretty balanced game overall, the difference was in the details and motivation. It wasn’t a bad season from this squad, but we had to perform in a different way today and remember we are representing an historic club with wonderful fans who deserve more respect.”

Giampaolo said last week that he was not sure if he’d remain at Sampdoria next season, as he would not stay if they’d maintain mid-table mediocrity.

“In around 10 days, I’ll meet with the club owners and we’ll evaluate what should be done. I have a strong rapport with the club, so we’re certainly not going to have a row. It’s very calm.”
