The Blucerchiati welcome their former Coach Vincenzo Montella back to Marassi tomorrow night, when the Rossoneri come calling.

Montella’s men are currently lying in 16th place in Serie A after one win in their opening three games, but the Samp boss believes they’re better than that position suggests.

“They’re a team who already have the characteristics their Coach asks of them,” Giampaolo warned in his pre-match Press conference.

“They were also unlucky against Udinese, we can say that their position is a bit of a false one. They’ll be a difficult side to face.

“I expect a difficult game because Milan have the characteristics their Coach asks of them. They never give the ball away cheaply and have good quality in attack.

“It won’t be a simple game from a technical point of view. We’re over the defeat at Roma, now we have to focus on the match at the Ferraris.”

Giampaolo was linked with the Milan job this summer after he left Empoli, could the two Coaches have been on different benches tomorrow?

“Samp was the first club to call me and they said that if Montella left I’d be one of the eligible candidates.

“In the meantime I had a short conversion with [Milan CEO Adriano] Galliani, then later when Milan decided to take Montella, Samp were as good as their word.

“I’m glad to be here at Sampdoria, because they work well, this is a good club. I think there’s an opportunity to lay some foundations.”
