Marco Giampaolo is ready to replace Napoli-bound Maurizio Sarri on the Empoli bench.
Sarri resigned this week, feeling he had reached “the apex” of what he could achieve at the Stadio Castellani.
He is now in Naples for talks with President Aurelio De Laurentiis and is expected to make the move official on Monday.

Meanwhile, Empoli have to find a suitable replacement and set their eyes firmly on Marco Giampaolo.
It would be a return to the top flight for the man who turns 47 in August, as previous clubs include Cagliari, Siena and Catania.
He was until this week at Cremonese in Lega Pro, but decided to move on.
“We are evaluating several options and Giampaolo is one of them,” confirmed Empoli President Fabrizio Corsi.
