Marco Giampaolo is the hot favourite to replace Roberto De Zerbi on the Sassuolo bench next season.
The Neroverdi need a new coach after De Zerbi walked away for a new experience with Shakhtar Donetsk in Ukraine.
According to Sky Sport Italia, the first choice is currently Giampaolo, largely because Vincenzo Italiano has decided to extend his contract with Spezia.
Giampaolo’s last two Serie A roles did not go well, sacked by Milan and then Torino not even midway through the campaign.
He has also been linked with a return to Sampdoria, but it seems as if Sassuolo will be Giampaolo’s next destination.
