The 18-year-old was sent off for the Azzurri in tonight’s 1-1 draw against Sampdoria, after being subbed on at half time.

However, Giampaolo said he has been forgiven and was pleased by his team’s performance.

“We met a healthy Samp, cheered on by an excellent public,” he told Sky Sport.

“They have a lot of enthusiasm and are very strong at home.

Empoli Coach Marco Giampaolo defends substitute Assane Diousse’s red card as an ‘error of youth’.

“We used up so much, it was a tough match and we perhaps messed up too much technically. Our opponents have a lot of quality but we behaved very well.

“Dioussé? You have to put up with some errors of youth. He has so much personality, but if he makes a mistake then the error weighs on him. But he’s growing, he’s 18 years old and we forgive this mistake.

“Today we have prepared for the game without knowing how Sampdoria would play. Without the ball we were not always perfect, we made too many mistakes.

“Ronaldo, Dioussé and Maiello are players that are the same. We don’t shoot down players,  they will all have their chances.

“I believe that my team has quality, I do not have certainty about the future.

“We have a good haul of points, I have always been calm because this is a club that lets you work in peace.”
