Tommaso Ghirardi has announced that he has withdrawn his resignation as Parma President as no-one ‘of note’ came in with an offer to buy him out.

The owner had confirmed in the summer his intention to walk away from the Ducali following their failure to obtain a UEFA licence to play in the Europa League on a technicality owing to a late payment of tax.

However, in calling a Press conference today, the President has revealed that he is now intending to stay.

“I have decided to withdraw my resignation,” Ghirardi has told reporters today.

“During these past few months I have received many emails, messages, letters of affection. Actions from fans that I am thankful for.

“I could not betray the trust that has been placed in me, so I thought I would get back in the saddle. After the drubbing we had in the summer we had to start again from a strong bas, and this was our fans, our club, our society.

“I said that the club was for sale but I would not have gifted it away. I would have been content to recover the amount spent, but no-one has come forward, no-one worth of note at least, ensuring that my abandonment would have meant this club would have disappeared and I did not have the heart.”
