The Ivory Coast international spoke to Foot Mercato about the extraordinary start to his Serie A career.
“Roma are a great club and I could not turn them down. It’s one of the sides I dreamed of playing for. Knowing I’d leave Arsenal, I didn’t hesitate for a second.
“Garcia’s presence was an important factor in my decision. I know him and he knows me. He’s like a father for me and he helped me find my confidence again.”
The Giallorossi have made history, becoming the first Serie A side to win the opening 10 games.
“We could not have predicted that, but I knew of the quality and Garcia’s methods, so realised straight away how good this team was.
“We will enjoy this moment, knowing full well it won’t all be rosy until the end of the season. It’s too early to name objectives. Our only target right now is to qualify for the Champions League. Then we’ll see, but why not go for a trophy?”
Gervinho has been impressed by his teammates, particularly Francesco Totti and Daniele De Rossi.
“Totti is an idol at Roma. They both have great experience, on and off the field, so I learn a lot from them. It is a pleasure to play with them.”
