Atalanta wing-back Robin Gosens received a standing ovation after a dominant performance for Germany against Portugal and probably added €10m to his asking price.

He was finally substituted an hour into the Euro 2020 match, with Die Mannschaft 4-1 up.

The wing-back turns 27 next month and this was only his seventh cap for Germany, as until 2020 he had been undecided on who to represent, also having Dutch citizenship.

Atalanta signed him from Heracles Almelo for €1.2m in 2017 and his price-tag will certainly have increased even more after today’s performance.

Gosens was already going to be hot property on the transfer market after his stunning season for Atalanta, scoring 12 goals and providing eight assists in 44 competitive games.

He dominated the match with Portugal, seeing an early volley disallowed due to an offside in the build-up.

The left-back was instrumental in all four goals while he was on the pitch, scoring the fourth himself with a free header at the back post on Joshua Kimmich’s cross.

It was a familiar sight for Atalanta fans, as he so often made that run to the far stick to meet a cross from his fellow wing-back, at club level Hans Hateboer.

Inter and Juventus have been linked with Gosens already, but his performances for Germany will no doubt raise his international profile and see Europe’s top clubs step up.

Atalanta already set an asking price of at least €40m and that may well be €50m after today.
