FIFA President Sepp Blatter says he had a “gentleman's agreement” with UEFA’s Michel Platini for a €1.6m payment.

“It was a contract I had with Michel Platini,” Blatter explained, speaking to Swiss television company RROTV.

“A gentleman's agreement that was followed through on.”

The use of the term “gentleman’s agreement” calls into question whether a contract exists, with Platini always maintaining that the money was for work done between 1998 and 2002.
