The defender had been out of action since September, when he snapped knee ligaments at Marassi against Genoa.

He made his return 237 days later and found the decisive goal to beat Sampdoria 1-0.

“This is where I hurt myself, so of course it crossed my mind, but I felt good and wanted to play. Thanks to God I scored a goal here and it is very difficult to win at Marassi,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“My calf is a little hard, as I hadn’t played in so long, but I’m fine.”

Lazio now go into two decisive games for their season, facing Juventus in the Coppa Italia Final on Wednesday and then Roma in the Derby della Capitale for second place.

“Tonight we played well and wanted to win more. Now we can relax and think about Juventus.

“We have the Coppa Italia Final next and will think about that. Roma can wait.”
