Reports in Italy suggest Genoa will launch a bid for Cagliari goalkeeper Federico Marchetti in the January transfer window.

Cagliari have frozen Marchetti out of their first team squad this season after he gave an interview to La Gazzetta dello Sport expressing his disappointment at not getting a big move in the summer.

The 27-year-old, who was Gigi Buffon's stand-in at the World Cup in South Africa, has since taken legal action against Cagliari in a bid to get his contract rescinded.

A ruling is expected on December 13, but in the meantime Sky Italia understands Genoa have made contact with Cagliari inquiring about Marchetti's availability.

Genoa have lost confidence in Eduardo, the Portugal international No 1, who only signed for the club in January from Sporting Braga.

It's claimed that Cagliari President Massimo Cellino is looking for a bid in excess of €5m for Marchetti even though he hasn't played at all this season.

In the meantime, Eduardo is generating interest from Premier League side Fulham.
