Genoa need a replacement before selling Albert Gudmundsson and seemingly whittled the list down to Wolverhampton’s Fabio Silva or Anton Matkovic of Osijek.

After sending Mateo Retegui to Atalanta, they are now set to lose their top scorer for last season.

Fiorentina had agreed a loan with obligation to buy for €30m, though Inter are potentially back in the running for the Iceland international, offering Marko Arnautovic in part-exchange.

While that is resolved, Genoa still need to find someone who can replace Gudmundsson and Sky Sport Italia identifies two candidates.

Fabio Silva has been on their radar for some time already and remains the favourite.

The Portuguese player turned 22 last month and joined Wolves for €40m in September 2020, but went on a series of loan experiences at RSC Anderlecht, PSV Eindhoven and Glasgow Rangers.

A new name has emerged in the form of Matkovic, an 18-year-old striker who can also play on the right or left wing.

The Croatian teenager is a product of the NK Osijek youth academy and already made five competitive appearances this season, contributing one goal in the Conference League preliminary round tie with Zira FK.
