Genoa director Giorgio Perinetti blasted reports of Poland sensation Krzysztof Piatek leaving in January. “Not a chance!”

The 23-year-old has scored 14 goals in 10 competitive games for club and country this season, attracting interest from the likes of Napoli, Roma, Inter, Juventus and Chelsea.

“There is a queue for Piatek and I hope it grows, but so far there are only shows of interest,” Perinetti told TMW.

“Now he has to confirm his form and improve. He has a strong character, so won’t get distracted by the transfer market rumours. We had already spotted in the first training ground games that we were dealing with a really important player.

“He reminds me a little of those strikers of the past, from the 1960s and 70s, who scored a lot of goals and kept chatter to a minimum.”

When Perinetti was asked if Piatek could be sold in January for €50m, the response was swift and absolute.

“Not a chance! He is our player and we’re keeping him. We are studying his progress and haven’t set a price-tag on him, so we’ll just enjoy him for the moment.

“We’re curious to see just how good he can become, but at this moment we’re helping him have a good season. There are many clubs observing him, including international sides, so we’ll see…”

Genoa sacked Coach Davide Ballardini this week to bring back Ivan Juric, a decision largely made by President Enrico Preziosi.

“Last season Ballardini did a great job and the club gave him credit for that by keeping him on, but this term we believe the team ought to grow in a different direction. Juric is a very positive Coach and we hope he can give us the results we want.”
